Structured on-the-job training (S-OJT) is defined as the planned process of having an experienced employee train a novice employee on a unit of work in the actual work setting or a setting that closely resembles the work setting. Structured On-the-Job Training is a comprehensive guide to understanding, developing, and using structured on-the-job (OJT) training in a variety of training situations and organizational contexts. Its underlying goal is to improve the training approaches currently used in the actual work setting to develop high levels of employee competence.

On-the-Job Training (OJT): Design and Delivery Program Overview This customized session delivered in a consultative format, targets skills for trainers, instructors and line personnel providing instruction in one-on-one or one-on-a-few learning environments. This report is designed to provide human resource development professionals and their managers with a framework to help justify the costs of structured on-the-job training (OJT). The report begins by defining OJT as the one-on-one process of providing the knowledge and skills to perform a specific task within a job. These five features of OJT are described: OJT (1) occurs in the actual.

Should strictly follow the structured training schedule. Should ensure cordial working conditions for the trainee. Should co-ordinate with the institute regarding training programme. Should be strict with the trainees regarding attendance during training. Should check with trainees regarding appraisals, training report, log book etc. JHPIEGO staff converted an existing group-based clinical training course to a structured OJT course and helped build support for this new training approach. The design and consensus-building activities resulted in the implementation of an effective, structured on-the-job training program.
